Music Theory I

Successful completion of the course will create a solid basis for further musical understanding. The class focuses on essential topics while providing more advanced students an opportunity to review the rudiments of musical language. Topics to be covered include note identification, interval recognition, major scale construction, basic rhythmic notation and ear training. Music Theory I equips the student with the tools needed to effectively communicate fundamental musical concepts.

  • Notes, the Keyboard, Staff Notation and Basic Rhythmic Notation
  • Basic Intervals and Meters
  • Major Scales and Diatonic Intervals
  • Consonance vs. Dissonance and Basic Composition
