Music production plays a role in several facets of the entertainment industry, offering musicians, composers, and engineers a variety of professional avenues to create and distribute their music.
Songwriters have long played a pivotal role in the music industry, creating the lyrics and the musical composition of a song. These professionals may perform the songs themselves, pen tunes for both established and up-and-coming artists, or work with music publishers to connect their compositions to potential clients.
Every aspect of the gaming industry has seen growth in size and scope over the past few years, and music has been no exception. Composers and Sound Designers for games are responsible for writing, arranging, recording, and supervising the music to accompany a game. This task can range from simplified, synthesizer-based music to fully orchestrated, cinematic-like soundtracks.
Music also serves as a powerful tool in the world of advertising. Jingle writers work with advertising agencies to craft catchy tunes and lyrics in order to sell a product or service in television and radio commercials. These writers will work with both the agency and the client to make sure that the composition fulfills its intended purpose and fits the specific guidelines on a case-by-case basis.
Music production. Artist management. Event planning and promotions. As a Full Sail student, Michael Congdon gained experience in multiple aspects of the music and entertainment industry; it only made sense for him to incorporate all those components into his career after graduating. The Artesian Entertainment Group, a business that Michael first conceived as his Final Project at Full Sail and launched within two months of graduation, covers four basic elements of the music industry in Richmond, Virginia: Artist Management, Music & Audio Production, Event Promotions, and Music Education.
Throughout a 15 year career as a mastering engineer in New York City, Full Sail Recording Arts grad Joe Lambert has worked on numerous projects with a diverse array of artists ranging from hip-hop superstars Kanye West and Wyclef Jean to indie giants Bright Eyes and Animal Collective. He also recently opened his own mastering studio in Brooklyn.
The final step in audio post-production, the mastering process is an art form in and of itself, aided in no small part by the combination of Joe’s collection of analog and digital gear and his experienced ears. And while today’s technological resources allow Joe to operate remotely with clients all over the world, he’s still a big fan of working directly with the artist.
1990 Full Sail Graduate Marc Fishman has successfully guided a 16-year career in the field of sound for motion pictures. Early in his career, he worked with EFX Systems (now Wilshire Stages) as a Supervising Sound Editor. In more recent years, Marc has served as a Sound Re-Recording Mixer at Todd-AO for the films such as Crash (2005 Motion Picture of the Year), Monster, Superbad, Mean Girls, and John Adams, which earned Marc an Emmy for Outstanding Sound Mixing in 2009.
In 2010, Marc was inducted into the Full Sail University Hall of Fame.
